Local 150 Supports U.S. Department of Defense Warrior Games

In it’s eighth year, the Department of Defense Warrior Games enjoyed its first competition open to the public, away from military installations. Chicago opened its arms to the Games, which give disabled veteran athletes the opportunity to compete across branches, and Local 150 was proud to support the events.

Teams from the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and SOCOM joined teams from Great Britain and Australia to compete in track and field, cycling, shooting, swimming, basketball, volleyball and other events around Chicago over the course of the past ten days.

“We are proud to support you,” President-Business Manager James M. Sweeney said to the athletes in his remarks at the closing ceremonies. “The union construction industry is home to more than a half million veterans, and we are honored to be with you tonight in celebration of your achievements. When your service ends, the construction industry will be proud to welcome you and help you shift back to civilian life.”

Local 150 also supports veterans through an annual golf outing, which raised $300,000 for the families of active, retired and fallen Navy SEALs.
