On Wednesday, July 11, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb joined union leaders and contractors at the Northern Indiana Operators Labor-Management PAC reception at the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 hall in Merrillville, Indiana.

At the event, Local 150 President-Business Manager James M. Sweeney commended Governor Holcomb for his efforts to rebuild Indiana’s infrastructure. “Governor Holcomb understands the importance of having safe and efficient infrastructure for businesses and families,” Sweeney said at the reception. “Too many public officials are afraid to make the investments, but Governor Holcomb gets it. Allowing people and commerce to travel safely and easily throughout the state benefits everyone.”

Local 150 Financial Secretary David Fagan said that the investments “will create good-paying jobs, strengthen small businesses, and support our local communities.” By putting local construction professionals to work, the capital expenditures will expand the tax base and benefit Indiana’s economy.

Holcomb commented on his commitment to carrying out the infrastructure projects safely, and said that “Local 150 and these union contractors have put a safety culture in place that is second to none.”

Holcomb championed legislation last year that increased user fees to raise an additional $1.2 billion per year for infrastructure investments, which is already translating to more road work across the state.
