At its City Council meeting this week, the City of Rockford approved payment of Local 150’s legal fees related to a lawsuit the union filed over procedures surrounding the City’s passage of Governor Rauner’s “turnaround agenda” in 2015.

The legal fees amounted to $117,000 plus nearly $5,000 in accrued interest since they were ordered to pay in December 2019.

Rockford failed to notify the public that it was placing a vote on Governor Rauner’s “turnaround resolution” on its City Council meeting agenda, which was a violation of the Illinois Open Meetings Act.

“The only municipalities in which Bruce Rauner was able to pass his resolution were those that cut corners to do so,” said Local 150 President-Business Manager James M. Sweeney. “We left no stone unturned and called out any municipality that tried to sneak this reprehensible policy through without proper notice to its residents.”
