On Friday, March 6th, Steve Russo got to present Brother Andy Huff his 75- year certificate and pin. He was initiated on November 7,1947 and has 79 years in the local. He was born March 8, 1920 and turned 106 this year (see images with the District 5 report). He talked about working on both the O’Hare and Midway Airports, building Route 41, and working all over the Chicago area running cranes, backhoes, and any other equipment he was sent out to run. He said his favorite thing to run was a dozer and he really missed operating. He is currently the oldest living operating engineer in Local 150 and he may be the oldest living member to date. Brother Huff is also a veteran that served in World War II. He was recognized at his party, the American Legion Honor Guard performed a flag ceremony and presented him the flag. He was sent letters from the White House, the Department of Defense, Senator Tammy Duckworth, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, State Representative Patrick Windhorst, State Senator Dale Fowler, and Harrisburg, Illinois Mayor John Peek. It was a really moving experience talking to him and hearing his story. We will never forget meeting him.
