Breaking myths about traveling outside of Local 150’s jurisdiction.
Don’t lose your hours or your benefits!
Myth #1: Dispatch knows when I’m sent to work outside of Local 150’s jurisdiction.
False! When an employer places a work order with dispatch, dispatch does not know if you are going to be working outside of our jurisdiction.
Myth #2: My employer sent me to Wisconsin to finish a job. Since he knows that I’m a Local 150 member, he’s going to report my hours to 150.
False! When your employer sends you to work outside of Local 150’s jurisdiction, they must report your hours/contributions to the Local’s Fund Office of the jurisdiction you are working in, not to Local 150’s Fund Office.
Myth #3: I filled out my travel paperwork for Local 103 last month, it should apply to all jurisdictions outside of Local 150.
False! Each Local’s paperwork is different. You are required to fill out travel paperwork for every new Local that you are sent to perform work. Travel paperwork does not carry over from Local to Local.
The Actual Truth:
- It is your responsibility, when you travel outside of Local 150’s jurisdiction, to find out which Local’s jurisdiction that you will be working in. Your employer should be able to give you that information. If they can’t, please call the Fund Office for assistance.
- Follow the guidelines to get cleared in
- Once cleared by their Business Agent, you need to contact their Fund Office for a Reciprocity/Travel form. They may also have their forms posted on their website.
- You may hear the term Reciprocity – this is an agreement between different local’s Fringe Benefit Offices, including the IUOE, to have hours/contributions transferred back to a members’ home local which in your case is Local 150.
- The Reciprocity/Travel forms allow for your hours/contributions transferred back to Local 150. If you do not complete these forms, this can affect your Local 150 eligibility and vesting service years because your hours are not being reported to us.
- Be sure to put Local 150’s information as your home local. Time is of the essence! The universal rule across Funds Offices is to only transfer 6 months of retro hours/contributions.
- The Fringe Benefits that you can transfer are Welfare Fund, Pension Fund, and Annuity (Retirement Enhancement Fund)
- Fund Office tip: Not all locals administer their own Pension Fund. You should always fill out Central Pension Fund’s reciprocity form to ensure you receive Pension Fund hours/contributions.
